It’s time to go back to the start.
To build hype for its upcoming Superman prequel series Krypton, set to air just one week from the time of writing, Syfy has rolled out an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette for the show. Posted to YouTube (where it unfortunately appears to be unavailable in a few countries), the clip explores how the series’ cast and crew crafted its Superman legacy as well as how Krypton will fit into and affect the overall DC world.
As the featurette proves, Krypton won’t be a standard superhero prequel show like Smallville or Gotham. Rather than going through the motions leading up to the character fans have known and loved for decades, Krypton crafts a narrative in which viewers may never actually witness Superman come into existence. Series star Cameron Cuffe, who plays the Man of Steel’s grandfather Seg-El, explained it best: The minds behind Krypton aren’t simply “making a sequel;” the show’s story will have “genuine impact in what happens in the DC Universe.”
Check it out in the video above.
Krypton also stars Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney as Val-E, Rasmus Hardiker as Kem, Elliot Cowan as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo as Alura Zod, Wallis Day as Nyssa Vex, Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em, Paula Malcolmson as Charys-El, and Blake Ritson as Brainiac.
Here’s the plot synopsis for the series: “Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos. Fighting to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, Seg is also faced with a life and death conflict: save his home planet, or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson.
Krypton will soar onto small screens on March 21.
